Validation and verification CDM Projects
The CDM foresee, through technological transfer, the development of high energy efficiency projects in developing countries, by public or private bodies from industrialised countries. According to art. 12 of the Kyoto Protocol, the aim of the CDM is to help developing countries achieve the objectives of the Protocol concerning climate change and thus to obtain certified emission reductions (known as CER), by implementing sustainable development policies. The acquisition of these reductions may be enhanced and used to comply with the Kyoto obligations, also by the industrialised countries to which the industrial bodies which have implemented the technological transfer belong.
The reduction of emissions resulting from every CDM project undertaken is to be certified by a third party agency accredited by the UNFCCC.
The UNFCCC (United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change), operational arm of the UNO as concerns climate change, coordinates the development of CDM projects by taking on all pertinent activities: registration of approved CDM projects, granting emission reductions, accreditation of third party verification agencies (called DOE Designated Operational Entity), approval and registration of methodologies to affirm GHG reduction in the various production sectors.
RINA is presently an Applicant Entity undergoing accreditation by the UNFCCC in sectors 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 11, 13, 14, 15 to undertake both validation and verification of CDM projects.
RINA can act as certification partner able to validate/verify CDM projects, assist in the process of proposing new methodologies to the UNFCCC, including Afforestation/Reforestation projects.
List of projects
It is possible to consult the list of projects undergoing validation/verification by RINA and comment on them. The RINA validation report will bear in mind any comments made, as stated in decision 17.CP7, §40.f of the Modalities and procedures for a CDM, contained in the Marrakech accord, add. 2.
However, it is recalled that RINA is not bound to reply directly to any comments made as it cannot offer clarification in lieu of the proposer of the project.
